Friday is looking for a Release Manager

Who We Are

Friday delivers a number of customer-facing and internal applications used by our clients. The things we produce cover various different technical stacks and infrastructure platforms, from enterprise CMS systems to hybrid Cordova mobile apps. Releasing these in a speedy but safe manner is crucial to what we do for our clients.

What You’ll Do

In this role you will be responsible for managing multiple project releases from initial release planning through to the production environment.

You will be responsible for producing release plans detailing all the technical and non-technical aspects like software code versioning, environments, software packaging, testing plans and release activities with assistance from Engineers, QA and DevOps.

In your day-to-day activity you will be running release management meetings with project teams and DevOps to make sure all the necessary elements are understood and noted. You will draw up release plans and facilitate the process of releasing incremental code changes from internal QA to UAT phases and production. You will act as point of contact for internal teams and clients, ensuring all the release stage successes, failures or impediments are effectively communicated both internally and externally. You will also take the lead in ensuring the release management process is understood and followed across all client project releases.

We generally have an expectation at Friday that people will offer a “T-shaped” approach to picking up tasks outside a person’s immediate remit. In this role that might be some QA activities, setting up users on various systems or spotting opportunities for process improvements.

About the Role

As Release Manager, your key tasks and responsibilities will be to:

  • Manage, plan and co-ordinate release activities across a variety of clients and technologies
  • Own the release from early development phase through to the end of warranty period

  • Conduct releases using various CI tools such as Jenkins, Circle CI, Team City, Octopus Deploy
  • Produce and maintain release documentation such as release notes and change documentation
  • Act in an advisory capacity to clients about release and configuration best practice
  • Co-ordinate client UAT phases including arranging Jira board, organising triage meetings and overseeing deployments
  • Progress the role of release management in CI/CD and cloud-based environments to progress modern digital practices
  • Manage and maintain release schedules between clients and internal teams
  • Release mobile applications for both iOS and Android platforms through the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
